Mostar is a beautiful historic city located in a picturesque valley of the Herzegovinian mountains. One of the most striking images of Mostar and name sake is the Old Bridge. Dating back to 1565, this impressive piece of engineering spans across the icy cold river Neretva that winds through the city bringing life and trade to this desert-like landscape. We are a local company and we offer a great range of Mostar Hotels available for online booking!
The Mostar Old Bridge perhaps represents one of the most famous icons of Bosnia & Herzegovina but it also represents the strength and perseverance of the people in this region.
Over the centuries, due to the mild, meditteranian Mostar Weather and sound economic conditions, the dwellings and monuments of this town have been arranged harmoniously. Unfortunately, during the 1960s, as in other parts of Europe, buildings came up in a disproportionate manner in Mostar. Nevertheless, the old town has preserved its medieval character on the whole and it can be seen in the architecture of our range of Mostar Hotels and other buildings in this area.
Mostar developed on the outskirts of a small settlement which existed in ancient times. Documents dating back to the 15th century mention a fortified place around a bridge suspended across the Neretva River. The Ottomans seized this fortification in the third quarter of the 15th century. We offer a range of Mostar Tours as well as Mostar Hotels.
During the war, Mostar was the most heavily bombed city in Bosnia, which unfortunately meant the destruction of the famous Mostar Old Bridge. Years after it fell to the bottom of Mostar's Neretva River, even a mention of the Mostar bridge would invoke tears, as it represented both the city and the country. Now, more than a decade later, the beautiful stone structure once again arches across the raging waters of the Neretva river, which it had earlier spanned for over four centuries. The bridge is the heart of Mostar and its reconstruction means that life is slowly returning to Mostar, which is definitely the most beautiful city in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
